What our customers say:
“The produce has been exceptional and we have been delighted and inspired each week. Knowing exactly where it has come from and who has grown it is a huge bonus.”
“Fantastic salad and herbs. Really enjoyed the variety. Good to have things I don’t normally pick up from the supermarket.”
“It has been great - such a fantastic variety- we have loved the herbs, seasonal produce like broad beans and every week favourites. We are delighted and will sign up next year.”
What you get
We offer three box sizes: small, medium and large. Boxes are delivered for approximately 26 weeks from May to November.
Every week we aim to deliver a balanced box that will contain a bag of salad, some leafy greens, some herbs and whatever else is in season. Larger boxes have more variety, more of the premium items (e.g. tomatoes) and larger portions of each vegetable.
We grow a wide variety of produce from staples like cabbage, broccoli and tomatoes to more exotic vegetables like kohlrabi or chard. We’re particularly proud of our bagged salad which constantly changes and contains a mix of baby leaves, lettuce and other greens chosen for flavour, shape and colour.
Our produce is picked on the day its delivered, unlike supermarket veg which often takes weeks to get from the farm to your plate. That’s why our bagged salad stays fresh for a whole week without the need for a sealed bag or preservative gases.
How it works
We deliver a box every week. You can pick up your box from our collection points in Tyninghame, Dunbar, East Linton, North Berwick and Cockburnspath. Or, for £2 extra, we can deliver to your door.
We commit to providing a box every week, but in line with our “community supported agriculture” principles, we aim to “share the risks and rewards” of growing with our customers. This means that if a crop fails, we leave it out. But if we have extra, we pass it on to you.
We ask our customers to sign up for the long term - ideally for the entire growing season (26 weeks) - as this consistent income is what makes it possible to operate a small-scale farm. If you’re going away, you can donate your box to a friend, or good cause using our website. If you need to, you can cancel at any time, but we need 4 weeks notice.
Our Pricing
We want as many people as possible to be able to eat our veg. So we offer “solidarity pricing”. This means that each box has three different prices. The “solidarity price” adds £3 to the cost and is for higher earners who want to help subsidise a box for people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it. Every person who chooses the solidarity price enables us to offer a box at £3 discount to a lower income household. So if your household earns over £60k a year, please consider paying the solidarity price.
How we grow
All our veg is produced using agro-ecological growing techniques and we never use any sprays or chemicals. We aim to create a healthy soil that will grow healthy plants, by using home-made compost and cover crops to really build the natural fertility of the beds.
We grow a wide variety of produce to ensure that, no matter what the weather throws at us, some of our crops will do well.
We use modern tools and techniques and our growers are always studying the latest methods from other farms like ours to ensure we can produce the best crops we can, in a way that benefits all the creatures that share the farm with us.
More than a veg box
By subscribing, you’re not just buying a box, you’re becoming a member of our farm and our community. You don’t have to do anything more - just by subscribing you’re helping us pioneer and test new growing methods, train new growers and provide meaningful volunteering opportunities for people from our local area.
But, if you choose to, you can also contribute in other ways. We run regular volunteering sessions. As a member, you can attend, and vote at, our AGM. And, by choosing our “solidarity pricing” you can help subsidise a discounted box for a family who might otherwise not be able to afford one.
