Summer is here!

The skies are blue (sometimes) the weather is warming up (occasionally) and the vegetables are growing all over St Baldred’s.

Despite the rain and the delays it caused in planting, and even the slugs and snails it encouraged to eat our lettuces, we are finally seeing the fruits of everyone’s labours blossoming across the farm.

The brassicas our volunteers planted back in April are looking big and beautiful, we now have two brand spanking new polytunnels on site, and construction is starting on our carpark and packing shed. Soon you’ll be able to park onsite and not on the verge or in the village!

With the new season comes new work. The weeds (or plants in the wrong place) are growing just as vigorously as the crops so we’re hard at work hoeing.

And of course all this work means that our produce is now on sale! You can buy our salads from the Crunchy Carrot in Dunbar, and our first veg boxes will be going out to subscribers on the 26th of June.

We’ll be running another volunteer session this Sunday 9th June from 2pm until 5pm - lots of weeding and hoeing; planting squashes and digging ditches are on the menu. There’ll be a variety of tasks from heavy to light, suitable for all ages and fitness levels, so please let us know if you’re interested in coming along. As always, children are most welcome: there’s usually a small pack of them roaming around amusing each other.

Finally a question for those of you interested in volunteering: would you prefer Saturdays or Sundays? We want to institute a regular monthly session so let us know which day is best for you.
