Winter tree fruit pruning workshops

Two of our directors are experienced fruit growers: Daniel Wight owns Tyninghame Organic Orchard, which is located right next to the farm, and Naomi Barnes has worked for many years with Belhaven Community Garden.

So we’re pleased to announce that any keen or budding fruit growers can tap into their expertise later this month with two hands-on workshops on winter pruning of apples and pears, with some reference to plums (which are pruned in late spring).

The workshops will be held at Sun. 26th Jan. 1 - 3.30 pm at Tyninghame Organic Orchard, St Baldreds, Tyninghame EH42 1XN and Tue. 11th Feb. 10 am -12.30 pm at Belhaven Community Garden, Belhaven Hospital, Beveridge Row, Dunbar.

There will be a £25 fee which goes to Tyninghame Community Farm.  Workshops are free for low waged or those on benefits. Numbers restricted to 16 per workshop, and our summer pruning workshops were fully booked so you should reserve your place early via the links below if interested.

26th Jan at Tyninghame Organic Orchard

11th Feb at Belhaven Community Garden

The workshops are primarily outdoors so please dress appropriately. It’s fairly gentle work so dress warm and bring waterproofs if any chance of rain or snow. However dates are weather dependent. If miserable weather is forecast we will try to find another date suitable for most people. If you have a pair, please bring sharp bypass (not anvil) secateurs.

St Baldreds is just to the north of Tyninghame village on A198.  It is on the Lothian Bus 120 route between Dunbar, East Linton and North Berwick (arriving from Dunbar direction 12.44). Can walk up from the village off road through the orchard.   If driving please park in the Community Farm car park, through gate to north of house.

Belhaven Community Garden is a few hundred metres off the A1087 on the East Lothian Bus X7 and Borders Bus 253 routes.
