Volunteering update

Counting worms

We had a great session on 24th March doing our “soil health survey” (aka worm count). It was great to see so many volunteers interested in being part of our community and it was a very productive day. Not only did we count a lot of worms, we also did some important work removing the fence dividing the site which will make moving around between the beds a lot easier. If you’re interested in seeing the results of the worm count, let us know and we’ll post the details.

Lots of people brought children which was great to see and the kids had a great time pulling up carrots and helping out with the work.

We’ll be running another session this Sunday April 14th which promises to be a fun day - planting out brassicas and onions. We’ll be running the session slightly differently this time - it’ll be a drop in session. Dave will be on site from 10am to 3pm and you can drop by any time to help out. As usual, if you’re interested in popping by, drop us an email and let us know when you’re thinking of coming and with how many people.

Please avoid parking on the verge by the farm since the rain has made it very muddy. Instead, please park in the village and walk up through the orchard. At T junction in village turn left and walk about 50 metres up the A198 towards North Berwick past an old workshop and fenced yard. Go through the first field gate on the left, immediately after the workshop.  In field immediately turn right up footpath and through narrow gate in deer fence. You are now at the bottom of the orchard. Follow path up hill and after first gate beside pond keep to the left all the way to the top. Continue straight across the next (small) field and you'll be at the Community Farm.  There should be clear signs on all the gates to help you find your way!

As ever, refreshments will be available, children are very welcome. Dogs are welcome too but must be kept away from the veg beds so please keep them on a leash.
